Trackelast Ballast Mats are designed to give the optimum static and dynamic properties for use with main line, urban, light rail and metro axle loads. They are proven to give reliable performance over a very long service life under any climatic conditions.
Ballast Mats comprise of a soft resilient layer, usually made from natural rubber because of its excellent dynamic properties. This layer is typically 15-30mm thick and is faced on one or both sides with a very tough ballast protection material. The mats can be pre-cut in our factory for immediate installation. Alternatively, Tiflex can deliver the mats in component form for rapid assembly. In both cases, installation is straightforward, and full fitting instructions are supplied.
Typical ballast mat stiffnesses start at 15MN/m3 up to 100MN/m3 for light rail and main line track, but other stiffnesses are available.
Trackelast Ballast Mats are one of the most effective methods of reducing vibration transmission from ballasted track. When installed under ballast, Ballast Mats isolate the track structure from the supporting foundation or substrate, and can attenuate the transmission by 20dB in many cases.
Lost form slab tracks are constructed by pouring concrete directly onto a slab track mat which has been positioned to completely contain the concrete to prevent direct contact with the surrounding structure. The resulting structure has noise and vibration reduction properties approaching those for Floating Slab Track.
As part of a total service commitment Tiflex are able to provide a range of rubber, both hard and soft, geo-textiles and geo-fabrics for the containment of ballast and attrition resistance. Full details and installation instructions are available on request.
