TREADMASTER® AF/DB

SLIPPING on diving boards!

Increasing numbers of accidents are coming to light involving bathers slipping on diving boards, sometimes resulting in serious injury and subsequent claims.

International and Amateur Swimming Association Regulations specify that the entire surface of a regulation Highboard Diving Platform shall be covered throughout with an approved anti-slip surface, and it is recommended that all walking areas, landings, steps, etc should be similarly covered.

Advantages of choosing TREADMASTER AF/DB

TREADMASTER AF/DB combines all the desirable features normally found in isolation in alternative coverings. These are:

  • ANTI-SLIP whether wet or dry.
  • NON-ABRASIVE – Will not abrade divers feet or body even after lengthy diving sessions.
  • ANTI-FUNGAL – Inhibiting the possibility of infection from Athlete's foot
  • RESILIENT – In the execution of a dive, should the diver strike the board accidentally, the severity of the injury will be greatly reduced.
  • DURABLE – Its high sheer strength lends itself ideally to advanced diving techniques.  Being an overall covering, it will protect under-surfaces.
  • COMFORTABLE – Warm to the feet, soft to the tread.

Accidents can also result from slipping on springboards normally covered with a mineral grit non-slip surface, when much of the grit has been lost.  Replacement boards cost over £3000 (UK).  If slippery boards have no fatigue cracks, refinishing is an option but is expensive, particularly for boards located far from Central Europe or the USA.

The Solution

TREADMASTER AF/DB was specifically developed for diving board applications, both springboard and firmboard. Since its introduction at the British National Sports Centre it has been tried and tested at many diving venues throughout Great Britain and other countries and has the unqualified approval of the Amateur Swimming Association and of the World body governing diving association FINA.

TREADMASTER AF/DB is a resilient, anti-fungal, patterned non-slip matting, which is bonded by a simple 'floor-laying process'. At a tiny fraction of the cost of a new springboard and considerably less than re-finishing, a springboard can be returned to safe use.

Dimensions

The standard mat is 1.0m wide  x 1.6m long, with the square pattern allowing easy cutting to suit most areas. The 1m width particularly favours regulation platform sizes and is economically halved for springboards.  Available in two thicknesses, the 6mm thick version is recommended for platforms, landings and stairs with the 3mm version more suitable for springboards, starting blocks and steps where bending over a radius edge is required.

Colour

The standard colour grey, blending well with most colour schemes and showing least stains, is mostly available from stock but special orders for Blue, Green and Natural can be produced to special order.

Applications

TREADMASTER AF/DB is used to enhance the safety of:

  • Diving platforms
  • Springboards
  • Steps
  • Stairs
  • Starting Blocks
  • Lifeguard Chair Platforms

A panel of TREADMASTER AF/DB of at least 1.6 m in length can be bonded to the outer end of a springboard to cover the greatest danger, or for maximum security would be bonded over the entire length.

Bonding

TREADMASTER AF/DB is bonded to the area to be covered with a 2-part epoxy resin or contact adhesive.

It can be bonded to a variety of surfaces including:

  • Concrete stages
  • Fibre Glass
  • Metal
  • Wood
